South Laramie Avenue at Polk Street

Studies consisted of approximately 0.4 miles along Laramie Avenue. The project involved the reconstruction of an existing twenty span viaduct structure to that of a four span structure. The existing structure spanned over eight railroad tracks owned by CSX Transportation. Study also included intersection design studies, architectural, and landscape enhancements. New 30-foot high MSE earth retaining walls were proposed in the new approach roadways areas.

Mr. Koylass was the Project Manager for the Phase I study. He proposed reducing the length of the existing structure, leading to the reduction of construction and future maintenance costs. Mr Koylass was the lead structural engineer on this project. He represented the team and met with personnel at CSX Transportation, winning its acceptance of the proposed layout.
